Several years ago, I had been asked to speak at a local church regarding a portrait painted by my great grandfather. The scene was Jesus rising up into Heaven. After I had finished speaking, I looked at the painting for the very first time through the eyes of a believer. Knowing that the Lord leads us for His purpose, I imagined the Count holding the handle while the Lord directed each brushstroke.
Most likely at some point in time, everyone has wondered about their past and where they came from. My great grandfather, grandfather, father, and uncles worked in churches throughout their lives. It has only recently occurred to me that each of these men were led to do the Lord's work. It is written that all the days of our lives have been ordained.
Count Berthold von Imhoff and his son Alexander were both ecclesiastical artists. The Count received international recognition. Alexander was known throughout the eastern U.S. Collectively, both painted portraits of many of the people mentioned in the Bible.
The Lord has blessed me with the ability to paint with word and song. None of these songs may ever become a masterpiece; however each song has a purpose and a point. If one phrase should touch a heart or perhaps light a little fire inside to seek the truth, that would be an answer to prayer. "I once was lost but now I see." As you listen, open your ears, open your heart and ask Jesus to come into your life. You'll never be the same!
